2017 Latitude Overnight Event

  1. Weather

The weather looks great for this weekend’s Latitude Overnight Event. The synoptic chart shows large approaching high pressure system over Victoria for the weekend which will dominate the wind patterns predominantly W-SW in direction.

The Meteye wind maps for Saturday at 1400 and 2000 are shown below showing winds of around 10 knots in the north Bay and slightly stronger in the southern regions of the Bay.

The forecast Winds near the finish time on Sunday morning follow a similar pattern.

The PredictWind forecast is essentially consistent as shown by wind maps at Saturday 2200 from two of their computer models.

Temperatures are forecast to be in the 10-18C range with a low chance of some rain. So in summary, it looks like some good weather to allow some enjoyable sailing around the Bay without being too challenging. Have great sail!

2. Handicaps

The handicapper has been busily polishing up his crysal ball and the handicaps for the event are shown below.

3. Presentation

The design finish time is at 0900 Sunday morning ( careful since there are big penalties for being too far either side of that!) with the finish line as described in the Sailing Instructions off Hobsons Bay Yacht Club. Berthing will be available at HBYC and contact Ocean Racing on VHF 71 (or an alternative channel if advised by Ocean Racing). A BBQ brunch will be provided and the presentation will take place once all boats have arrived.
