ORCV Winter Series Flare Shoot tradition continues in 2016

The traditional annual Flare Shoot prior to Race 1 on the ORCV Winter Series including the use parachute flares, has again received approval from relevant authorities.  This is a rare opportunity to gain practical experience discharging parachute marine distress flares.

Our friends at Hobsons Bay Yacht Club will again be providing a press boat for photographers Steb Fisher and Bruno Cocozza to be out on the water.

Fleet currently stands at 25 yachts from all major keel boat yacht clubs in Port Phillip.

Winter is a fabulous time to sail in Melbourne and there is till time to enter the ORCV Winter Series, which has been conducted annually since 1971.

The 2016 ORCV Winter Series, consists of 6 Bay races sailed on Port Phillip around laid and fixed marks, every second Sunday commencing 3 July, 2016.

The 2016 ORCV Winter Cruiser Series, consists of 4 Bay races sailing on Port Phillip around laid and fixed marks.

The last race in both series is the longer Melbourne to Geelong Passage Race on Saturday 10 September, 2016.

2016 ORCV Women Skippers & Navigators Race from Geelong to Melbourne on Sunday 11 September 2016 forms part of the Yachting Victoria Women and Girls in Sailing (WGIS) Port Phillip Women's Passage Series.

• Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) – Instrument Number: CASA.FWK.0033
• Australian Maritime Safety Authority
• Port of Melbourne Corporation
• Victorian Water Police
• Coast Guard Melbourne
CASA have issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) to alert aircraft pilots of the Flare Shoot location.

The ORCV Office is moving

THE ORCV IS MOVING! Later this year, the Victorian offices of Australian Sailing will be moving from its current Sandringham location to the new State Sailing Centre on Albert Park Lake.
