In Memory of His Excellency the Honourable Peter Underwood AC

It is with great sadness the that ORVC advises of the death of His Excellency the Honourable Peter Underwood AC.

He was a great supporter of Yachting and brought much humour and great style to the Trophy presentations, held each year at the Derwent Sailing Squadron. His passing is a great loss for the ORCV and the Yachting community.

His laid back and relaxed approach to presentations combined with his wonderful & thoughtful speeches on Yachting will be missed by all.

It has been said that ‘Peter and Frances Underwood through their extensive community engagements at Government House and across Tasmania, brought a shared sense of vitality and warmth to the Office of the Governor’. That same sense of vitality and warmth, has been shared by the Yachting community and the ORCV.

As Commodore I feel a personal sadness as he was a terrific ambassador for our sport and the ORCV, and a true gentleman to work with. It was a privilege to have known him.

A State Funeral will be held in Hobart on Monday 21 July 2014.
