AVW Day Five - Fun, fun, fun.
A fairly benign day, weather wise, but after the passage race, I do not think anyone was complaining and it makes it easier for the shooters to get those all important brochure shots, Captain Raw.
We've had a few shots of A85, which is 'Canute' from SASC, including the one immediately before the Bundy Girls (not that anyone remembers...). As they are leading IRC2, it's good to get some faces on them. Well done team!
Delightful. Slot the heady in, the mark's coming up.
She's a King 40, BTW.
Now whilst on the subject of leaders, we were onto the 'Terra Firma' thing, all the way back HERE and HERE, for that matter. They're leading IRC Div1, BTW.
Hero pic = Terry Hall, aboard his Archambault 35, 'Absolut'. Just liked the focus and he's a nice guy.
Flat water, sun, enough squirt to get you around the track - wonderful.
Screw it up, sheet the Bag on and you'll get a stern wave out of it yet. Just love this image of 'Living Doll' leading the Judel-Vrolijk TP52, 'Shogun'.
'Quest' and it does look very soft.
Peter Coleman, who I met for the first time in Hobart, and the gang of 'JAHMU2'. peter was keen to round up a few suspects for some serious investigating, but I had a bit on at the time. Next time for sure!
You pay a bit for the rags these days, but they do look good when photographed with the sun going through them. I wonder if the sailmakers added that to their marketing spiel? Go fast and look good too!
'Ingenue' and the You Yangs. I'm sure the canapes on the after deck were delightful. What were we serving please Rosie or David? I am sure everyone would like to know and I wonder if others, like 'Pretty Woman', have stepped up to your Michelin Hat yet?
'Ingenue' heads in. Champagne on ice, ready to go team? I'll be there in a moment... I missed out in Hobart. Speaking of which, Rosie and David were one of the PHS winners at Xmas and that means they are in the running for that carbon fibre wheel from McConaghy's.
This is the 'Second to None' hour and that's 'The Girl' and 'Smithy', always in the funky shorts... (We saw a bit about them HERE).
Prep work for The Girl.
Downhill with 'First Misketeer' and 'Silk', on the right...
Something to say Lorraine? Anyway, then there was a Port/Starboard under kite with 'Sportscar', which provided the only entertainment on this easy day. Here's the sequence.
Smithy wants to be there!
So here comes 'Sportscar' on Port...
Here's the bow of 'Second to None' on Starboard.
xx
Yards of the stuff coming in...
Great work getting all the foot in and nice control of the halyard in the office!
Maybe only just kissed the water in the end - well done!!! SM4 is of course a 'Wicked' sail and they have no stick to put it up on presently.
Touched the backstay? You tell me...
And then it's all over, like it never happened...
Just did not look right for a soft breeze...
Now you know why they get riders to take their helmets off when entering banks!
Lovely work from the human preventer there...
'Ninety Seven' in the centre of frame, The Doyen off to the left and our heroes, 'Terra Firma' on the right.
This is Richard Hunter, a stalwart of the SYC volunteers. He was kind enough to give Steb a ride down for the pssage race and hence, we have pics. Thank you!

Good composition Steb; Bow to bow...
Prodder to transom...
Boom to boom - hello Basil!
R/P v J/V. Steb loves the red kite. I agree. Good choice Rob/Dave. 'Shogun' leads the 'Runner'.
Nice.
Rights.
The little 'Zutem' in behind 'Two True' and 'Canute'.
I'm pretty sure that's the marvellous Scotchman's Hill in the background as the 38s play... what a location! Bit dry though.
OD all the way...
Some more 38 stuff, whilst the bigguns do the Buffalo Girls.
'Living Doll' takes 'Cougar II's stern.
Poles up!
Good pre-feed on the left there...
And down we go.
'Second to None' in against the pin.
Gotta do some of this, soon.
Pretty sure this team was there for the M2G!!! Vang all OK? No issues?
Now that's a good shot, eh?
'Peregrine' were definitely there for the inaugural M2G last year.
Looking for all the world like an Adams 10 with a cabin...
This is the local boat, 'Panache'.
And these are their crew shirts and I just like the way it signals their intentions. Being a good mariner is all about knowing your semaphore...
Day Five and a bit will be here soon enough - come and see.
