King Island Race - Divisions, Fun and the Commodore's Cape Wickham Slab
Even though we have a number of late withdrawals, the fleet is still 22 yachts and ranges from Micel Calhane's North Shore 38 to Hugh Ellis's Reichel Pugh's 63 ....... a 65% rating difference.
To keep handicap ranges within reasonable levels, we have introduced additional divisions in Unrestricted Monohull event. There will still be a Combined Division Result which will be used for the major trophies and for scoring the Offshore Championship. In order to keep the competition as tight as possible the divisional split is based on boat performance rather than fleet size - with a view to ensuring that boats within each division can reasonably expect to be racing in similar conditions of wind and tide.
Commodore's slab - fresh from the Adelaide- Port Lincoln Race, the Commodore has decided to add to the fun by awarding a Slab of Beer to the first yacht on handicap south of the Cape Wickham latitude. Just exactly how he will decide the winner is yet to be seen (thats part of the fun) .... Protests regarding the Commodor's Slab will either not be accepted or subject to an appropriately high protest fee payable in cash and in advance.
