Melbourne Latitude Series

Good work -

- when you can get it, that is.

Kevin Robinson and the gang on 'No Fearr' have taken out the 2009 MLS Bass Strait Race, having crossed the finish line off Portsea Pier at 12:27. So that's a great result for our principal sponsor, Heemskirk Consolidated.

It is also fantastic that some of Kevin's crew who were going out to get more ocean experience did not have to face too much of Bass Strait this time. That super soft Southeasterly that turned NorEast as it built, did get them back to the Heads before slack water, however. Kevin commented over the radio that the strongish NorEaster and the remnants of the Ebb tide, "Sure did make it interesting!" A lot better than a huge SouWester thankfully...

One of the best things about the MLS, is that the way they finish is the way they stand on the podium. This is because each boat's turning latitude has been calculated out based on their handicap.

Royal Brighton Yacht Club have also done well it seems, with a lot of their club members looking like they'll be in the top five as well. The fleet finishes and heads for a drink at our hosts, Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron, now, before the BYS to SYC Pursuit Race tomorrow.

The Top Five is as listed here and it looks like there was some very close racing towards the end - just what the handicapper likes. Here's how they finished; -

Joanne Harpur bought herself 'Spirit of Freya' after skippering "Magazan 53' for the last MLS -

they did well for Second.

AllegresseRBYC

One of our newbies, Kathryn De Garis and 'Allegresse', gave it their best and were in with a chance for top five.
