No rest for his crew though as they now prepare the boat for the start tomorrow in the Melbourne to Launceston race. Pattinson has previously taken line honours in both the East and West versions of the Melbourne to Hobart race and is keen to seal the trifecta by winning line honours to Launceston.
Kate Mitchell’s Goldfinger is close to crossing the line as the sea breeze has picked up and is pushing the fleet home. A group of 40 footers are creating a race within a race as they strive for the finish, these include XLR8, extasea, Jem and Dry White. Crews will be trying to gain as many minutes as possible for the all-important handicap places.
