McConaghy Melbourne Offshore Championship
(COB as part of the MMOC)
Final Round.
It all started with Ding! Ding! for the First Round in 'There's No Question Now', which you can revisit HERE. The Second Round was 'Circle Work', which you can revisit HERE. That must mean this is the Final Round... for last Saturday at least.
So here are Divisions 0 and 1 from Saturday afternoon, as they prepare for things like the ENTIRE Cock of the Bay on Boxing Day. Pics by Steb Fisher, whom you can reach on mobile 0438 160 753, email
Our hero pic for the article...
And may De Schwarz be with you too (from Mel Brooks' "Spaceballs")
And now a word for our sponsors (well four really) - Thank you and thank you!
Kevin Robinson of Heemskirk Consolidated aboard 'No Fearr'...
And Peter Coleman of ENTIRE Group aboard 'JAMHU2'.
The ORCV thanks you both very much.
Division One seemed to have a very interesting time getting to the line and away... keep an eye on 'Ikon' and 'Smooth Criminal'.
Some very interesting angles here...
Don't flog the sail for too long - they're expensive!
Truly interesting angles now.
I'm sure the gaps were bigger than paralex casued by the lens?
'Matrix' sees their hole
'Ikon' comes through...
And then 'Smooth Criminal' pops out from underneath.
Love a good fleet shot - 'Clockwork', 'Audacious' and 'wicked' going down... Probably 'No Fearr' coming up.
Division One goes downhill - 'Nutcracker', 'Soiree Bleu' and '38 South'.
The lazy sheet did get cleaned up...
All of which was just a segue into the our new name for 'Nutcracker' - The Love Boat! Good to see you enjoying your sport team. Please bring it out for the Cock of the Bay on Boxing Day!
I think 'Silk' must have a reflective logo - always stands out. 'Wicked' and the top mark on the right.
The old 'Moshio' now 'Stampede' - more like the herd's hanging around masticating grass in this pic though. Thought a boat with the name 'Wild Side' should be with a stampede...
The Doyen holding the port quarter rail aboard his 'Challenge' with 'Ikon' just in front.
Lozza's beloved 'Spirit of Downunder' and "Gienah'.
'Horizon Sprint' and the 'Audacious' gang with our FDU hero, Michael Stephens and the other muti-skilled crewmembers. Who's on the mast this time guys?
Terry's 'Absolut' and Beeks on the bow of 'Blue Chip'. great to talk with you around the Lake a while ago pal. He's another one of the many ship drivers amongst us yachties...
Yes - very much the Lion King indeed. Akuna Matata to you. Nice one.
LEFT: Marcus Godinho on the bow of 'Ninety Seven' and Nifty actually on deck!!! OMG. You go lad. He's under the blue division flag...
RIGHT: Plum transom, slab sides and low freeboard - has to be an Adams. The USN calls it Fighter Weapons School. The Naval Aviators call it? (Uber-popular 80's flick - remember now??? - you'll have to go deep...)
Behind 'Audacious' used to be 'Swodfish Trombone'. Now??? First mention for 'Barnstormer' I think... as too, 'Absolut'.
Just call it 'Ikon' week OK!!! Not sucking up to anyone, but I am convinced we'll get the biggest turnout ever for the 2009 ENTIRE Cock of the Bay if I keep talking it up, all right. So just be there and see if I'm right - please...
Rob Sill doing mast work on 'INSX', so that confirms that it was too hot downstairs for the Navi-Guessers and that his hip must be really good now - terrific news...
'Matrix' used to be 'Kaos' and she still holds the record for M2AB. She had a little time on the beach a while ago and got some Don Jones mods to his original design just recently... Gybe wasn't too pretty, however. Click HERE to go and read about her history.
Division Zero PM start. This was as good as it ever got.
The result was pretty clear for the very-good-in-light-airs 'Living Doll', who stepped away beautifully. She is a delight to watch...
Welcome back to sailing Fee Orwin and on the right, there's a really focussed person in the dark glasses and light cap looking back down the course, with Andy Keep driving 'Goldfinger' around the top pin. A word from the sponsors, Cameron Industrial/Commercial who look after said types of property in the Dandenong and Frankston district, BTW...
The afterguard aboard 'Veloce'.
Big Bags in Div Zero.
Pre-loading the Bag, left and when you get to see SMB3 from behind, she'll look pretty much like SR does... Quelle Surprise, huh?
That's two pics with smiles Rob - yes, I am counting...
'Living Doll' with 'Calm' crossing behind and the big red bow of the Runner...
Leeward & Windward.
'Cougar II' working the light airs
'Calm' and 'Audi Centre Melbourne' stuck close to each other in the early parts of the race...
