ORCV Melbourne to Vanuatu (M2V)

Party of Five.

And you thought I was going to bang on about that show with Neve 'where is she now' Campbell and Matthew 'Lost' Fox. Well I'm not, even though I just have. Fantastically, its from the 90's, so not too far back. WooooooHooo!

PartyOf5

Seems there's a bit of residing in the "where are they now" file for some of them, unless voice over work for games counts? Yes I know there's six in the image, but finding an image with the young lad in it was a challenge...

For us, it's actually more like Party FOR Five, anyway. You see, Hobson's Bay Yacht Club has five of the eleven starters in the 2010 M2V race. Yep 45%! Well done and thanks, BTW. So it is no surprise then, that they had planned to hold a massive BBQ for their clubmates last Saturday night, despite the weather.

HBYC Commodore, David Judge explained, "On a cold and wet June night, HBYC acknowledged their skippers and crew that are making the big journey shortly, to sunny Vanuatu. A large crowd of members enjoyed hearing how the preparations were going and what were their plans for the race and just as importantly, afterwards. A great meal was put on by the fantastic volunteers in the kitchen, in place of the planned BBQ..."

Bill Feore was one of the skippers to detail their plans. Perhaps he had been inspired by Angus Fletcher, who'd been there four years ago.

ORCV Commodore, George Shaw, and Robyn Brooke represented the ORCV. "Geo was also the completely unbiased judge in the impromto quiz about Vanuatu", David added. All of this followed on from some news from M2V Race Director (and HBYC Member) Bob Tanner. George had this to say about the night, "Thank you for the invitation to the HBYC night, David. Very well organised! It was just a fantastic night put on by HBYC to support their five entrants. The Clubhouse was decorated with ORCV and Vanuatu regalia and also featured 'The Wandering Minstrels' band."

Each of the skippers was then presented with the HBYC Burgee by their Commodore, David Judge. David is an avid reader of the site, one of the very first fans and a regular go-to guy, for onboard intel and the like. Thank you, mate.

Leon Berry of Samskara, with a delighted David Judge. Their latest story is HERE. Glenys from Garisenda on the right. Glenys, I'm sorry, but they did not give me your Surname, so if you would send it in, then I'll add it. It's Glenys Jensen. Garisenda's latest story is HERE.

Bill Feore from Turbo, the 2008 M2L winner, collects his recognition award. See HERE for a small spiel about them. Eric Marsh off Slinky Malinky (they pop up in nearly every ORCV race), on the right. They have one crew spot left I gather, see HERE to go and secure it.

ORCV regular and former Commodore, Angus Fletcher from Tevake II, collects his burgee.

"Finally, Robyn Brooke provided information about the humanitarian aid and fundraising efforts associated with the race. Over $300 was raised on the night with more in the pipeline. The night continued with the unique sounds of Vanuatu and then HBYC member, Nick Dear and his band played their fantastic blend of blues", David concluded.

Robyn had this to say of it all, "A fantastic effort and what a wonderful night.  I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the band and the food. Thank you HBYC."
