Club Marine Series, Day Six - The best driver
and his RIO...
"...get their names on this plaque", was how 'Viper' put it in Top Gun, the movie.
Now I think the driver of Top Gun, the Adams 10, is one Max Peters, but I can definitely tell you that the RIO in this case, is the very affable, John Donati. Consider yourselves on the plaque boys...
Our hero pic for today and all pics in this story are © Steb Fisher.
The late Joe Adams reputedly made the 10s to see how the 20s would go and in doing so, made a whole new market for himself. Nice one. Must check that with Graham Radford, unless someone else knows???
At any rate, the Adams 10s are still ultra-popular and always a feature on the scoreboards, just look at Executive Decision.
Great colours or what.
Rates well and gets a mention on the board often. Delightful little trickle at the bow. Almost tropics sailing - wasn't it now.
Bit of string in the drink, but otherwise we're off. They've only just set, so picky, picky, picky!
Footloose enjoying the conditions a lot more than back in CMS4 - see HERE
This is Gravitas.
And again with Gravitas.
Coming in like a.... Bullet, of course.
This cruising boat glided through with a kid perched in the pushpit having a wow of a time (yes PFD was on)...
Today's chocolate prize goes to the person who can tell me who this is, because we don't know them...
A pair of Hicks - Godzilla and Hick Up approach the bottom mark.
Former HCOTW holders - Godzilla
Andy McKinna will tell me it's not their best angle...
And that this one is.
That toe rail looks really viscous to sit on. No wonder there is some protection forward!!!
Note to Self: Must remember to ask him what it's like to sail with an apart-from-him-all-girl-crew. I see they've already shown how smart they are and got him to do the hoist. If anyone from the crew is reading, let us know please! Perhaps David Leroy can help us locate him...? GAK, De or Neil - any ideas?
Hotspur were the last up to the top mark, so we went down the track a bit to find them...
Glad we did, as she is one of those very stately vessels, as these images show.
Brochure shot here, eh Captain Raw?
The tiny little transom from another time all together...
... and then others you don't, huh?
Ready, Setty...
...Spaghetti!
Over on the left are our new best mates from Wavelength, trying to sneak into a race without us finding you huh??? BaBowwwww. We got you! On the right is Duckmobile.
Ah, yep. It's a mark! Top one, actually... We're aboard the Duck here.
Delightful inshore racing or what? (I did tell everyone it would be - see HERE). Duckmobile heading downhill, with SS Feathersword in front???
More volunteers to thank (this time from RBYC) and it is the ORCV's very own Rear Commodore, Simon Dryden, who was in charge on the Div 2/3 course on the day.
David Ellis and the Surprise crew. BTW, David is a ship's pilot by trade...
They sail the boat really well, so it is no surprise (ar, ar, ar) they are all over the scoreboard. Here we go with a sequence of their drop at the bottom mark.
Headsail's up and the Bag is going straight into the companionway, helm fully over
Bag just about squared away...
Gybe Oh.
And so we're around the bottom...
Then soon enough, we're at the top ready to go the hoist...
Pole up, helm over
Pre-feed on the brace.
Go the hoist and giving the brace plenty of Larry there. Nice.
All doing their jobs well.
Just about... MADE!
Set and heady almost down. Blue shorts is one busy person...
Cheerio - until next time.
So after this Royal installment, there will be more Division Two and Three coming your way soon. Tell the world - or at least your crew mates and family!
