This hugely popular race on Port Phillip Bay is held each year on Boxing Day (26th December).
The shortened course of 22nm course starts near Station Pier in Port Melbourne and is designed to sail past major bayside locations for sailors and spectators alike to view. Some say there is no better way to work off the excesses of Christmas the day before.
Besides being a great classic race in its own right, the event serves as a feeder for the blue water classic Melbourne to Devonport ocean yacht race.
This year, due to Covid-19, BYS are not able to offer berthing and hospitality for the Cock of the Bay fleet. The shorten course will allow boats to finish and cruise on to other locations or home in time for sunset drinks.
The record fleet size is over 100 yachts. There are great vantage points for spectators at Port Melbourne, St Kilda pier, Brighton Pier, Sandringham and Hampton foreshore.
