Victorian blue water sailors mourn the death of highly revered yachting journalist, Peter Campbell

Peter Campbell OAM

Peter Campbell OAM who died in Hobart this week aged 89, for over seventy years covered Australia’s top ocean races, the Olympics and the America’s and Admirals Cups.

Many blue water Victorian sailors and Club Members will recall his insightful coverage of Port Phillip’s annual Petersville Regattas and the ORCV’s Melbourne Devonport and Westcoaster races. In 2014 he was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for services to yachting as a journalist.

Former Ocean Racing Club of Victoria Commodore, Warwick Hoban says, “Peter found the good side of yachts and their crew and always put a positive spin on his widely read stories.”

Peter is survived by his wife Sarah, sons, RYCV Member Timothy and Jonothan and their partners.
A small funeral in Hobart is being planned for a date yet to advised.

Our sympathies are extended to Peter’s family at this time.
