The lead group of "big" boats had the added benefit of the flood tide helping them on their way south and managed to finish before the current changed direction.
The rest of the fleet is now bunched up along the east coast of King Island. With the weather report predicting a further lightening of the winds tonight, the rest of the fleet still has a few more hours to go to the finish line. The lighter conditions combined with the changing of the tide at around 2000hrs will mean that boats and crew will have to battle with an opposing current which could mean an even later finish tonight.
