Jennifer began her love of sailing on a Hartley TS 16, graduating shortly after to a 23 ft Cole TS. A few years later, along with her partner, completed the fit-out and rig of a 35ft steel cruising ketch and headed off crusing for a year around Tassie and up the east coast of Australia.
On return, the cruising ketch was sold for a share in a 24ft Triton while house renovations took priorty. Then in 2000 she became the proud owner of an Alan Payne designed 47ft wooden ketch called Waltzing Matilda. This boat continued many family sailing adventures around the bay and out of the "Heads" to destinations south, east and west around Bass Strait.
In 2004 she set sail again with her family for an extended cruise around Tassie and up the east coast of Australia. This time spending more time exploring the off-lying islands and outer reefs of Northern Queensland.
Although cruising combines her love of sailing and marine life - garnered from her earlier studies in marine phsyiology, she also enjoys the thrills and spills of racing. Jennifer is a regular crew member on Wednesday night races and has also crewed in a womens' sailing series.
When she is not sailing she runs her own media, marketing and communications consultancy. Having worked on commercial projects for Kraft's Vegemite and ANZ's water safety sponsorship she then specialised in the area of science communications for medical and research facilities. Jennifer has worked for the Victoiran Institute of Marine Sciences, The Australian Stem Cell Centre, AusBiotech and The Australian Synchrotron.
She is looking forward to bringing her communications skills to the ORCV to help increase the club's exposure to the sailing and non-sailing public and promote awareness of the it's many activities.
