Hokko Yacht Club members farewell Yasuyuki |
Yasu has been corresponding by email with George Shaw, as he makes for the Solomon Islands and then on to Noumea. On 19 November he reported that he was avoiding a cyclone sailing at 5 degrees 45’ south 164 degrees 27’ east. In typical Osaka Hokko Yacht Club style, a farewell party was held at Melbourne House (the Club premises) before Southern Cross set sail.

Farewell at Melbourne House |
Many members of Hokko (friends of ORCV and SYC) attended and it looks like the enthusiasm for a good party has not diminished since we were last there. For those who have not been to Osaka, the hospitality of our Japanese friends at OHYC is legendary. On arrival, competitors will be met with the banging of saucepans and lids, whistles, hooters and assorted other noise making devices. As soon as the customs and immigration formalities are attended to, all and sundry congregate in Melbourne house for a celebration – a “mini” party. There are many “mini” parties at Hokko!!!That alone is worth the trip north!!!!Plans are afoot to meet Yasu as he approaches SYC. Please “get on board” and join in the welcome – contact George Shaw at
