After a dream  start with an overnight run in full moonlight - and with spinnakers set for the run along  the surf coast in the morning -   the crews were hoping to dodge the worst of the expected strong winds. After rounding Cape Otway the wind  has been on the nose and has steadily increased reaching up to 40 knots and gusting to 50 knots at times.
