Testing conditions for this year's Apollo Bay Race

This weekend's race to Apollo Bay doesn't look like we are going to have any records broken. So with light wind tactics are going to be important. As this is the last race of the Offshore Championship the scores are close. In AMS Addiction and Bandit are separated by a point, in IRC Bandit and Dry white are separated by 5 and in PHS Addiction and Matrix are separated by 4 points. Although the 2012 Apollo Bay race got off to a great start in a fresh breeze – the breeze soon faded by early afternoon which made it tough going for the tail enders. The fastest boat Dekadence, skippered by Ken Simpson, finished at 16:00:02 hours with the majority of the fleet coming in a few hours later.  Nearly all the boats had crossed the finish line by 21:30 hrs with the final boat drifting in at 01:00:56 hrs.

Apollo Bay race results have now been corrected and complete provisional results have now been uploaded to the website.

Please note these results are classified provisional as there are still be some protests to consider as well as well as a possible  "request for redress" by Magazan 53 who went to the aid of a fellow competitor.

Magazan demonstrates the art of good seamanship in 2012 Apollo Bay race!

The skipper of Magazan 53, Nick McGuigan, and his crew received high praise from members of the Victorian ocean  racing fraternity when they went to the aid of a fellow competitor in last Saturday's Apollo Bay race.

Dekadence takes line honours in 2012 Apollo Bay Race.

Dekadence took line honours in the 2012 Apollo Bay race at 16:00:02 on Saturday afternoon. Followed by Spirit of Downunder at 17:00:39.

At 2000hrs there are still five boats to finish including  Deliverance, Magazan 53, Magic, Streetcar and TryBooking.com.

The wind has decreased further late this afternoon to below 10 knots making for a very slow race for the tailenders.  And with no cloud cover tonight the crews will be trying to keep warm on this starlite freezing night.
