2014 Women Skippers and Navigators Race

Ocean Girls set to sparkle!

The Ocean Girls are looking forward to a ‘sparkling’ event with their second Women Skippers & Navigators Race (WSNR) being run this weekend Sunday 14 September 2014 by the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria with Royal Geelong Yacht Club (RGYC).
The weather for the final race of the ORCV Winter Series with the passage race from Melbourne to Geelong is shaping up to be pleasant with an ‘almost there’ northerly on Saturday and a welcome swing to the WSW for Sunday with a following 5-10kn wind –just perfect for a glamour spinnaker run home to the finish at Sandringham.
This year the girls are not only grabbing the helm and the nav desk on the competing boats, but are also taking on race management roles. Well known double hander, long distance ocean racer Robyn Brooke is stepping off The Secretary for the weekend and will be Race Director assisted by Race Officer Amanda Wakeham from Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron (RMYS).
And to celebrate, everyone is invited to come along and join the Ocean Girls for a meet-and-greet drink on Saturday 13 September at the conclusion of the Melbourne to Geelong passage race. We plan to kick off in Soos Bar at 1630hrs – you will find it on the left hand side outside the clubhouse building as you walk off the marina. Come and meet our Ocean Girls – our chair and ORCV Committee member Lynda Brayton, the ten year veterans of the ‘wild side’ Melbourne to Hobart Westcoaster race Maureen Dickins (Yoko) and Dee Colledge (Spirit of Downunder), sponsor Sue Bumstead from Custom Yacht Covers who will be on the wheel of Dry White on Sunday and our race officers Robyn and Amanda.
Good luck to all competitors for the weekend and we look forward to seeing you on the water.
If you have not yet signed on to be part of this great event, it is not too late. Jump online for the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions and Enter now!
