MELBOURNE TO PORTLAND RACE – WEATHER OUTLOOK
The weather for the Melbourne to Portland race is weekend is looking promising! PredictWind shows a slow start, downwind to Cape Otway with the wind slowly freshening and becoming more close-hauled into Portland. The slower boats might see little more excitement with the front passing through Sunday morning. The current routing for the Beneteau 40 shows a 27 hour trip but still early days of course.
.
After rounding Cape Otway, keep a weather eye out for the survey vessel operating to the south west.
Our friends at Portland Yacht Club are cooking up a storm for us! The Club will be open from the first boat arrival until midnight Sunday night. The club will then re-open Monday morning with egg and bacon sandwiches for breakfast and if required the bar can re-open at mid-day. The bar will be open Saturday until midnight, re-opening at 6am until midnight Sunday. Food including hot spit roast lamb and gravy rolls, egg & bacon sandwiches, cakes, bar snacks and a variety of hot soups will be available right through. Coffee, tea, orange juice, water etc. will be available at all times. During the day & night, we will have America’s Cup footage on the big screen and also yacht tracker will be live. Plenty of deep water in the harbour, so no excuse for not enjoying the hospitality of Portland!
