The Secretary is away with the fairies!

Crews in this years Melbourne to Port Fairy race are enjoying “t-shirt and shorts” weather as they approach Cape Otway this morning after a comfortable nights sail. The morning view from The Secretary looks good and the crew are away with the fairies!

By the light of the silvery moon!

The  fleet danced by the light of the silvery moon last night as they ran along the coast under spinnakers’ in glorious full moonlight and a light following breeze.

Time for a cuppa before the start of the Port Fairy Race!

Today, in the late balmy afternoon sunshine, the crew of Yoko seemed very relaxed as they made their final preparations to the boat for the Port Fairy Race.  While crew member, Terry Barridge, was busy adjusting the forestay, skipper Robin Hewitt  called “time for a cuppa”.

How quickly the weather has changed for this year's Port Fairy race!

We have just spoken to Cameron Henderson, the Duty Weather Forecaster at the Bureau of Meteorology and below is a synopsis of what he had to say.

Port Fairy race is going to be a busy one!

This year's Port Fairy race looks like light conditions, so crews will have to work smart to optimise their boats position and give careful consideration to their sail selection in the light airs.  There is going to be a bit of everything -  warmth, cold and wind from lots of directions. The Predictwind model shows no windward work so this will open up the field and create a great opportunity for the reaching boats to do well. But sailors beware, this advantage could easily be undone if skippers do not position their boats well for the wind changes.
