ORCV Melbourne Winter Series (MWS)

It's all about the shoes.

Right oh. Catchy headline. Miscellaneous ramblings. He's talking like a girl and even more whacked out than ever, huh?

NUP! Bad luck.

The hit counter would indicate that you missed us, so then, here is the second batch of Steb Fisher's great images from R5 of the 2010 MWS - the Passage Race.

ORCV10-R5-852

Shoe in.

ORCV10-R5-854

So that must make this the shoe horn?

OK. We're going straight off into the fleet images...

FleetORCV10-R5-122

In this lot, there is Escapade, Hush, Slice of Heaven behind them and Cloud IX, out to the right.

FleetORCV10-R5-125

Yep. Definitely Slice of Heaven.

FleetORCV10-R5-126

Hush will be happy with that.

FleetORCV10-R5-127

Very grey day.

FleetORCV10-R5-139

Hush and Cloud IX.

FleetORCV10-R5-133

Biddy Hu II (who won cruising with kites on the day) and Mistress (still without the vang).

FleetORCV10-R5-136

Alibi and Gienah, which is Mistress' sistership and she's definitely found the vang. Good thing the latter is front, otherwise, do your spins....

FleetORCV10-R5-169

L to R it is Spirit of Freya, Magazan53 and Fade 2 Grey.

FleetORCV10-R5-170

Most likely Pretty Woman under Freya's kite there...

B5903ORCV10-R5-180

We're with Spirit of Freya here... but are they with us? That is the question....

B5903ORCV10-R5-215

Somebody's closed in on them...

B5903ORCV10-R5-220

And that would be Magazan 53!

B5903ORCV10-R5-222

Oh yeah! Good stuff. - SPIKE!

B5903ORCV10-R5-223

Few miles down the way and still very close! - GONE!

B5903ORCV10-R5-226

Pole getting squared away.

B5903ORCV10-R5-227

Ah yes. Armfuls of tape - good on you!

B5903ORCV10-R5-233

Yes siree. Consider it done. Nice work Team Freya!

B5903ORCV10-R5-241

And then we're ready to go on the breeze.

B5903ORCV10-R5-242

Joanne Harpur is all well again and back on the wheel.

B5903ORCV10-R5-244

Some really tall lug just keeps showing up in the images???? Boy did I get a pasting for that last time. So much so, that I just to drag it out again!

B353ORCV10-R5-235

Magazan going the inside route.

B353ORCV10-R5-237

Action stations.

B353ORCV10-R5-238

Oh yeah! Now here's a bit of action.

B353ORCV10-R5-240

Cool.

B353ORCV10-R5-246

Nick MacGuigan driving.

B353ORCV10-R5-248

Trim, trim, trim. Kite's still up.

B353ORCV10-R5-249

Well my knees would be shod by now...

B353ORCV10-R5-250

13 - Supporters' bay.

B353ORCV10-R5-257

Busy, busy.

B353ORCV10-R5-261

Carrying the Bag all the way in...

B6511ORCV10-R5-168

Hhmmm. Keeping it really noice aboard Cloud IX and that's one hell of a Yankee Foxtrot in the background!

H6336ORCV10-R5-117

So here is, The Bookmaker, who went around just ahead of the boats we've just seen.

H6336ORCV10-R5-130

'Steb'.

B129ORCV10-R5-200

Slice of Heaven were also part of that bunch we saw initially.

B129ORCV10-R5-204

Definitely headsail time...

B129ORCV10-R5-253

Sure was. Now it's time for the kite, because The Bookmaker have just gone around behind Alibi...

H538ORCV10-R5-177

Also out there representing Hobbos (like The Bookmaker), was Escapade. Pictured here with Slice of Heaven tucked in behind her.

H538ORCV10-R5-179

Sermon Time - Fire!

H538B5903ORCV10-R5-183

And well and truly gone.

H538ORCV10-R5-184

Lots to get in there, especially for a letterbox drop.

H538ORCV10-R5-189

Running a bit deeper to ensure you have a chance.

H538ORCV10-R5-206

Possibly short-handed on the day.

H538ORCV10-R5-208

Me not likey ending up at clew!!!

H538ORCV10-R5-218

Hhhmmmmmm. Especially considering she has an outhaul track at the end of that boom. Lots and lots of wonderful little things to get caught on....

Sm5508ORCV10-R5-143

Good stuff!

Sm5508ORCV10-R5-155

Wave action. Get a wiggle on, eh!

Sm5508ORCV10-R5-158

Heady time.

Sm5508ORCV10-R5-165

Very motivated crew...

Sm5508ORCV10-R5-173

And there are more than two other souls onboard this week, besides Marissa and Pete!!!!!

Sm5508ORCV10-R5-174

And that'll be Pete Chalkley saying, 'Hi'.

Pete is another of our avid readers. Thank you, mate!

So. Would you Twisties like a little more, then?

The full MWS results to date are HERE. The next race of the MWS is Race Six, on August 29.

So. If you would like to go for a run with the Colts or any of the other sections represented by the Bay's best, you can. Individual entry for MWS Sace Six is HERE and the M2G is HERE - remember that Cruising Divisions are offered for the latter event.

Melbourne to Geelong (M2G) - 11/09/10

Baker's Dozen.

Joining us for the 2010 M2G escapade, is in fact, Robert Bradley's Farr38 IMS, Escapade. Argh. Argh. Argh.

Robert has told us this, about their recent on-water activities, "Escapade is in her first full season with a new owner and crew and we're looking forward to consolidating some of the promising form we showed during racing, last season. Built in 1995 as a training boat, Escapade continues in this role, as well as competing regularly in club and inter-club events."

She follows John Kint's Bundaberg, the venerable Adams/Radford 17, which was our twelfth entry. John said this about his entry, "'Bundaberg's been around for a while, so maybe a little rusty, but still trusty!"

Well done and thank you to both. Now Trainspotters will have noticed that Escapade has been out for a few of the last MWS events, getting some not so secret practice in there, hey team????

H538ORCV10-R5-177

Escapade as shot by Steb Fisher in R5 of the 2010 MWS.

Right then. You may wish to join all the other vessels and yet not want to have to organise a massive crew or get too busy to have a whole lot of fun. Solution - join the Cruising with Spinnakers Division, even if you have been in the Racing Divisions previously. Pretty Woman was the first to cross over for this particular event, then 2009 Melbourne to Hobart Eastcoaster racer, Biddy Hu II showed up on the cruising roster and won R5 of the MWS to boot, then Magic and Independent Endeavour, as well. Boats such as Ocean Safari, Vantage, Caledonia and Dream, could well do the same...

If you entered the entire MWS, then you're already automatically entered into this race too, but you do need to complete some more information for this particular race. You can also just enter the M2G race only, if you like, but I guess that means you're giving the game away about your favourite pastime after sailing - partying!!!

There are separate Cruising Divisions (kite and no kite). The M2G Notice of Race is ready for your perusal and the M2G Sailing Instructions are now live too.

Click HERE to go and complete your online entry if you're already doing the MWS.

Click HERE to go and complete your online entry for just the M2G race only and it looks like this, below:

If you' ve got the boat tied up to the quay and think you should give it a run, then do. The M2G is a passgae race and if you do not want to be in with all the racers, even if you normally are, then go in one of the Cruising Divisions. While you're at it, get your clubmates to come along as well. Why? Party. That's why...

ORCV Melbourne Winter Series (MWS)

He of the Loud Jokes.

Yes, jokes. We already have He of the Loud Shorts, He of the Countdown Timer and the Bay's (not nearly oldest) bowman, He of the Pointy End. So now, with Nathan Edwards, we also have He of the Loud Jokes. Don't remember? Have a look at The Love In and then Hemingway, Vol. III.

At any rate, did you miss us? Well here are the first of Steb Fisher's great images from MWS R5 - the Passage Race.

S14ORCV10-R5-068

Here's Nate trimming the kite aboard Rod Miller's, Gienah.

S14ORCV10-R5-088

A bit closer zoom in on the crew. Stu Addison near the office there.

B3607ORCV10-R5-074

Having shown the first Seaquest 36, Gienah, here's the second one - Mistress (with a need for some vang).

B3607ORCV10-R5-092

"Hi Team!"

B3607ORCV10-R5-094

Eyes on the job = bonus points.

B3607ORCV10-R5-103

STERN WAVE! Woo Hooo. Our first for the piece.

FleetORCV10-R5-010

INSX and Team BO.

S37ORCV10-R5-009

Raw Hide. (Rollin, rollin, rollin.)

S37ORCV10-R5-016

And the other!

S37ORCV10-R5-018

Nice One.

S37ORCV10-R5-034

Got past them.

Sm5985ORCV10-R5-020

Lord Warden Trophy holders 2009 and what do you think, 2010, as well?

Sm5985ORCV10-R5-023

We're coming to get ya!

Sm5985ORCV10-R5-036

Rob Sill driving.

Sm5558ORCV10-R5-004

Young Ones have been adding a bit of curry at the top of Div2.

Sm5558ORCV10-R5-014

Hey there team.

Sm5558ORCV10-R5-025

Do my specs look good?

Sm5558ORCV10-R5-026

OK. You can take the pic now, Steb.

S54ORCV10-R5-114

Matrix and a little Yankee Foxtrot.

S54ORCV10-R5-115

OK. Big yankee Foxtrot.

Sm178ORCV10-R5-057

Alibi would have definitely been in with that leading Div2 pack.

Sm3500ORCV10-R5-032

The Parents get out for a blast aboard The Love Boat.

Sm3500ORCV10-R5-042

Looking a lot like the Bookmaker in behind them there...

Sm3500ORCV10-R5-043

Yep. We'll run with that.

Sm3500ORCV10-R5-048

He of the Pointy End is crouched in amongst the shrouds.

Sm3500ORCV10-R5-052

Are they smiles? Looks like such a lovely day out there......... Not!

Sm3500ORCV10-R5-059

I am reliably informed that the "Thumbs up is from Warwick Hill - used to sail Sabots with Will (Fisher) and now sails a Finn." So I guess you know who told me that... Missing some of the vinyl from the name there. What did you hit?????? Come on. Fess up!

R187ORCV10-R5-060

We're going to finish up with a series on Biddy Hu II. They did the 2009 M2HE with us (which you can read about HERE) and most importantly now, are lining up for the Cruising with Spinnakers Division of the M2G on September 11, 2010. This, new to the ORCV and this event division has already attracted a dozen entrants and we still have time to get more boats into the whole thing.

PS. If you've entered the whole MWS in a racing division and you want to go in the M2G, you still have to add some information to your entry. There are no fees, so it is FREE, but we just need a little more information from you. So far, there are 15 entries and 40 boats in the MWS. Go Figure, eh? Let me just say FREE, on more time...

R187ORCV10-R5-062

Give it some Larry, son!

R187ORCV10-R5-075

Ocean Grader. (We'll thank the 51st Project for that one).

R187ORCV10-R5-076

See. Now you can have a relaxing time.

R187ORCV10-R5-077

More grading.

R187ORCV10-R5-078

R187ORCV10-R5-079

And even a little more.

R187ORCV10-R5-080

Yep. It's a clew.

R187ORCV10-R5-081

Howdy.

R187ORCV10-R5-082

More hand signals.

R187ORCV10-R5-083

R187ORCV10-R5-089

I've never met Paul Lindemann. Is that you on the wheel, mate?

R187ORCV10-R5-106

That full dodger and bimini could come in handy...

R187ORCV10-R5-107

.... hate rain when sailing...

R187ORCV10-R5-108

Not entirely sure who they've mowed down there. At any rate, they went on to take out the Cruising with Spinnakers Division on the day and set themselves up nicely for not only the M2G, but the MWS Cruising Series, which comprises Races Five and Seven.

So. How was entrèe?

ORCV Melbourne Winter Series (MWS)

Not so vintage.

... If you don't mind.

Sm3500ORCV10-R2-258

Chris Furey would like to make an urgent retraction. "BTW, I have discovered that I am not even close to the oldest bowman on the Bay. Billy Scott, who does the bow on Denis Hambleton's Sydney 36CR, Alibi, is a sprightly 71, so I guess I am still just an apprentice."

Awesome and glad to see we now have someone else to focus our attention on and we'll arrange a better image at some point too.

Sm178ORCV10-R2-250

Alibi are always out there doing their bit and having a blast. We heard from Dennis Hambleton, a while back in Stanley Kubrick.

Sm3500ORCV10-R3-369

This image shows the pair of them under kite.

So, if you know of someone else who might take the helm of this particular mantle, then please let us know. 71 and counting...

Melbourne to Geelong (M2G) - 11/09/10

Swanning about.

If you owned a delightful Swan 65 and you saw a race that had a division for Cruising with Kites, then you'd do it - wouldn't you?

IndepEndevBow

Such was certainly the case for Malcolm Mohr and his splendiferous, Independent Endeavour.

IndependantEndeavourStern

So, they are like quite a few now in the Cruising with Spinnakers Division. Those who have raced with us before, but at the end of Winter, they've decided to go in a division where the energy level is going to be just a few points down on the usual. Fantastic. Also fantastic is that with the Race Committee having the hotline permanently open to Huey, there will be just the right amount of push available to her on the day. Our Rocket Man, Adam, will be pleased about that....

2010_M2V_IndepEndevLR

Independent Endeavour was part of the 2007 M2H via Launceston Centennary and she was swanning about, ever so gracefully, lending her support to all, at the start of the recent 2010 M2V. That happened to be when we last got to chat with Malcolm and Simon Pownell, who'd helped bring her down from her SYC home at the top of the Bay.

Question? Will Independent Endeavour's appearance be enough to get her cousin, White Swan Pt I and Pt II, out for the M2G???? Icpota, or what.

Right then. You may wish to join all the other vessels and yet not want to have to organise a massive crew or get too busy to have a whole lot of fun. Solution - join the Cruising with Spinnakers Division, even if you have been in the Racing Divisions previously.
